FRC Presentation At High Speed Boat Operator 2012
FRC International attended High Speed Boat Operator 2012, held in Gothenburg Sweden, from 17th to 19th April. This conference attracted over 250 delegates from 27 countries.
As part of the HSBO conference FRC directors Jon Hill AFNI and Dr Trevor Dobbins presented papers entitled ‘Professional Crew Training and CPD - Competence For Advanced Operations.
The HSBO presentations generated a great deal of interest from navy, Special Forces, SAR, coast guard and professional sector attendees. They outlined how professional RIB and high speed craft operations are reliant on competent crew with the appropriate capabilities and qualifications. Internationally recognised qualifications can enhance operational effectiveness via improved interoperability between both individuals and agencies.
The training and qualification structure developed by FRC International, and internationally recognised by The Nautical Institute, supports this competence-based interoperability with basic competence / qualifications being the foundation for advanced skills with modularity providing the flexibility required.
Included within these basic competences are the required Command & Control (C2) skills. Examples of advanced modules include compliant / non-compliant boarding, mission planning and DYnamic NAVigation (DYNAV). These are relevant to RIB and fast boat operations worldwide.
The maintenance of competence requires Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to facilitate and enhance an organisations resilience, part of which includes maintaining the crews health and safety. The presentations showed examples which are being delivered to the industry sector by FRC International. In high speed boat operations it is essential to deal with Whole Body Vibration (WBV), including legal compliance in the EU, and the required health surveillance (H-SURV).
The comprehensive FRC integrated training and support programmes enhance operation effectiveness and readiness plus help crews to remain safe and healthy.
